iPhones are neat.

I’m posting this from my brand new iPhone.. Very cool.

This thing really knocked my socks off, they managed to pack a lot of power into a very solidly built little package.

Also, the edge connection is not as bad as people on the Internet make it sound.. bunch of whiners if you ask me. Its not blazingly fast, but it’s still better than dialup. The fact that i can use the internet at all on a device this small with full javascript and Ajax support is just amazing to me.

It’s almost enough to make me not feel guilty about paying into AT&T’s mass surveillance research. Oh well, as soon as the sdk comes out in February I’ll get over it, I’m sure.

Welcome Alan!

Welcome Alan

Back Again

Well, I’m back again with a new host and brand new design.

This time I really do think I’ve hit on a design that is simple and generic enough to survive my varied interests and posting topics. The posts will now be organized using the categories as tags instead of a strictly hierarchical layout, meaning that a post can belong to more than one group ensuring that it can be found from any relevant topic.

The header area up there may change from time to time, I’m not sure. I needed something to go there for now so I’m using a flickr badge. In the future I’d like it to hold flash experiments and such if I ever get around to making some.

Confused SpamI have also implemented a new type of comment spam filtering system using a modified version of Michael Woehrer’s Math Comment Spam Protection plugin. Basically you are asked a simple math problem. If you answer it correctly then your comment goes live immediately. If you leave it blank or get the answer wrong then the comment goes into moderation. I think it’s a novel method of spam protection, easier on the user than a captcha but should still manage to thwart the automated spam bots.

Here’s to a new year and hopefully a somewhat stable blog!
